The Pump
Drill.

Claude pose-tracked the swing frame by frame, found the fault at the top — and prescribed one drill to fix it. Then check your own pump at the bottom.

Step 01 — The Diagnosis

The engine is elite.
The top is not.

“Speed isn’t the problem. The rushed, over-long top is — and it costs you the slot.”

Step 02 — What’s “The Slot”?

Two ways down.
Only one is money.

The slot is the delivery lane: on the way down, the shaft drops slightly behind your hands onto a shallower plane, so the club attacks the ball from the inside.

STEEP over the top THE SLOT shallow, inside
Rushed top → steep Patient top → slot

Same top position. Two totally different deliveries.

Here’s the chain: rush the backswing, and the club drifts past parallel. From there the only recovery is throwing the club over the top — steep, outside-in, pulls and weak cuts.

A patient top that stops at parallel gives the club time to fall into the slot instead.

Step 03 — Why The Pump Works

You rehearse the drop
without the hit.

The pump drill isolates the transition — the half-second where the slot is won or lost — and lets you feel it twice before you ever swing at the ball.

Each pump grooves three things at once: a top that stops at parallel, a first move down into the squat, and the shaft shallowing behind the hands instead of lunging over the top.

No ball. No rush. Just the slot, on repeat — until the third move is a strike.

Step 04 — The Prescription

Two pumps.
One strike.

Pump one

The move on loop — watch the shaft fall into the slot

1

Swing to the top — and stop.

Slow count back. Shaft stops at parallel, not past it. Hold one beat.

2

Pump down to P5.

Drop hands to lead-arm-parallel. Feel the squat load and the shaft fall behind the hands — that’s the slot.

3

Back to the top. Pump again.

Same drop, same feel. Twice in the slot, zero rush.

4

Third move: turn through and hit.

No rebuild, no reset — from the second pump, go. The strike inherits the slot.

Dose 7-iron · 2 pumps + 1 strike × 10 balls
Step 05 — When You’ve Passed

Film it. No warning.
No do-overs.

Five unannounced swings on camera — every backswing ≥ 0.75s

4 of 5 tops at parallel — not past it

The slot shows up without thinking about it

Step 06 — Your Turn

Check your
own pump.

Film your pump drill (down-the-line, phone at hip height), drop it here, and grade yourself with the same criteria the AI used. Video never leaves your phone.

Tempo check

Play in slow-mo. Tap TAKEAWAY the frame the club starts back, then TOP when it stops. We do the math off the video clock — slow-mo doesn’t cheat it.

Eye test

Scrub to your top and your pump. Be honest — the camera already knows.

Shaft stops at parallel at the top — not past it

Pump drops hands to lead-arm-parallel (P5), not just a wiggle

Shaft falls behind the hands on the pump — shallower, not steeper

Lower body squats into the drop — pressure left, chest stays back
